Our PhD student, Xiaoran (Sharon) Liu has been appointed as Conference Communications and Logistics Director for WISE, the McMaster Women in Science and Engineering initiative.
WISE is a network of academic and industry professionals in science and engineering fields. It supports diversity and equity at McMaster and in adjacent communities. Women are underrepresented in most STEM fields, and McMaster Engineering is leading for change. About 48% of incoming students in 2024 were women, which is more than double of the overall ratio of women in STEM workforce in Canada and is on par with the European Union. These results are due to the hard work of faculty members and staff, as well as student organizations that lead for change, such as WISE.
